THE WILL OF GOD IN MARRIAGE
This is
response to a demand for clarity on this topic. It’s a crucial subject and have
caused much tears and pain, so I wish also to do it justice and I pray it will
help you to walk in the will of God for your life, because it’s only in the
will of God that there is joy, peace and hope. Outside God’s perfect will is
more troubles and sorrows.
The will of
God is God’s desire and plan about any issue or matter. We were created by his
will and we are sustained by his will. The will of God is our safe zone. It is
the script of our life. As a counselor, I have met many people, who desired so
much to know God’s will especially when it comes to a choice of spouse. They
have been troubled and uncertain and they expect God to clear their doubt.
The first
thing I will say is that God’s will is never difficult to know or to walk in.
Everything about God is easy and sweet. There are things he hides away from
public view but never his will. If he hides his will, then he won’t blame us
for flaunting it. His will is in plain sight and have been made available to
us. The wisdom that comes from God is God’s will. So God has put in us Sophia (Wisdom) so we can walk and
function like him. Remember he created us in his image (resemblance) and
likeness (capacity). Proverbs 8 says it is Wisdom that created and formed us.
If Wisdom formed us in his image, then we are created by default to be wise.
Glory to God!
The subject
of God’s will is a very broad one and I want to be very brief about this post
so I will head on to how this relates to marriage or better put, the choice of
a spouse.
The first
thing I will say about the will of God and probably the only thing I will input
is this:
“To walk in God’s will, you must
never fear that you will not walk in his will”
Weird right?
I know. Everything about God is known or achieved or received by faith. It is
by faith, Enoch walked with God. It is by faith you are righteous, it is by
faith you receive anything from him.
Heb 11:6
But
without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For
whoever would come near to God must [necessarily]
believe that God
exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and
diligently seek Him [out].
AMP
You
must believe that you will not stray from his path. In the old testament, they
were not knitted with God like we are now, so they constantly have to seek God’s
will about any matter. They didn’t know God. But we know him and we have him in
us.
”Friends,
the Holy Spirit is not taking a nap in you!”
This
was the purpose of his coming into you. That God’s will be implanted in your
spirit that you will walk in his will in all things. Jesus says he will teach
you all things.
But ye have an unction from the Holy
One, and ye know all things.
(1Jn 2:20 KJV)
Some of us
have relegated the Holy Spirit to be watching our romance season series, he
cannot do anything about it since you do not believe in him.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and
he shall direct thy paths.
(Pro 3:6 KJV)
So he is
saying you should acknowledge him and he will direct your paths. Your sole
responsibility is to acknowledge him, by telling him your challenge, by
believing that when you have acknowledged him Lord over you, he will show you
the way. And when you have done this, he says he will direct your paths.
Directing your path is not advice. No! It is supervision. Have you seen movie
directors? They do not direct the actors and actresses in what to do alone,
they ensure that they do exactly to his satisfaction.
When you
become a Christian, God automatically becomes your director. He will cause you
to walk in his will. As the epistle of John, quoted earlier says, you know all
things because of the unction. Friends, God is in you and that is the most
important thing. God himself will nudge you to the right decision, he will make
it so that you will realize that this course of action is his course of action.
But when you are full of fears and worry, you will never be able to walk in his
will.
“The premier way of walking out
of God’s will is to be afraid that you will walk out of God’s will”
You are
Child of God, begotten of his seed, and you have that seed in you. Have you not
read? Whatsoever that is born of God overcometh the world. Let me show you a
practical way to increase your sensitivity to God’s will and purpose.
Col 1:9-10
For
this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and
make [g special]
request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the h full
(deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [i in
comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and
discernment of
spiritual things —
10 That
you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord,
fully pleasing to Him and j desiring
to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily
growing and increasing
in and
by the knowledge of
God [with fuller,
deeper, and clearer insight, k acquaintance,
and recognition].
AMP
This
should be your prayer daily, and as you pray this, I can assure you that you
will never waver from God’s will. Read that scripture carefully over and over
again, let its comprehension sink in. Oh that you will be filled with the full
knowledge of His will in a spiritual wisdom and in understanding and in discernment
of spiritual things! This is my secret. I prayed this prayer for over 6 months,
and I still do till now. Oh! There is another one I love so much.
Ezek 36:27
And
I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you
shall heed My ordinances and do them.
AMP
Do
you notice all he spoke was what he will do in you? He didn’t say, “you will
listen to my Spirit so that you will walk in my statutes and you shall heed my
ordinances and do them” No! He will put his Spirit within you. Oh glory to God!
I told you, the Holy Spirit is not watching movies in you, he is not just an
advisor, he will cause you to walk in his statutes. Arrrrgh!
Jesus
says, my sheep hears my voice and they come to me, a stranger they will not
follow. This is you and I. Brethren, esp Sisters, never fear that you will
shift from God’s will. Finally, I will drop this too:
1 Cor 2:16
For
who has known or understood the mind (the counsels
and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and
give Him knowledge?
But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings
and purposes) of His heart. [
AMP
He
says, you have the mind of Christ and hold his thoughts (feelings and
purposes). I tell you, if you have faith in Christ, you will know the right
spouse. And if you are about to make the mistake, relax, he will nudge you away
from it. But you must stay given to the Lord. You must stay submitted. That is
the secret. God will not interfere with your will. These promises are to his
Children who have surrendered their will to the Lord.
Acknowledge
him and rest about it. It is done!
So
I finally made it long. God will help me next time. God bless you!
